Cross Country - Season_main_page

Oct. 21, 2012

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to all of our State runners!  Yesterday was certainly not an easy day to race, and each of you went out there and gave it your best!  We are very proud of each and every one of you.  Despite all that happened (ambulances, IV's, and sprained ankles just to name a few), we ended the day with four top 20 finishes between the two teams, two All-State placers, and a third place overall finish for the girls... to have pulled all of that off given the conditions shows just how tough you all really are!

Please remember that we will be having a team meeting right after school tomorrow in room #305 and you need to turn in your CLEAN uniforms at that time!  See you all then!

Oct. 16, 2012

  • Saturday race times are: Girls @ 1:45pm  /  Boys @ 2:50
  • Must have an alternative travel form completed by tomorrow in order ride home from Helena with a family member.

ALSO, belated accolades to Tom Merchant for winning National Merit recognition and to Tianna Cronk for being named a Senior High Student of the Week!  We have the best team ever!!!!!

Another great week for Bronc XC!!!  Many PR's were acheived and our runner's left it all out there on the Bill Roberts Golf Course yesterday in Helena.  A second place win for the varsity girls and twleve individual medals were just iciing on the cake!  Check out the full meet results at

Way to go Broncs!  See you all at practice today (in the park) at 3:20!!

Oct. 1, 2012

Are we game for trying to top our performances from last week?!  What phenomenal showings... I can't wait to see what happens next! A second place finish for our gilrs in Missoula was just fantastic and all the individual improvements were incredible too!  Results and photos are updated.

This week we head to the Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena for the 7 on 7 meet.  Our bus will leave Senior at 6:30 Thursday morning and we won't be home until after 10:00.  The weather is really going to cool down, so be prepared with WARM clothes. (Remember those 103 degree mile repeats?! It's hard to believe we've come this far already!)  We'll have subway for dinner, but you'll need to pack your own breakfast and lunch.  The schedule for the day follows (boys and girls run together in all races except JV):
          11:30 Course Walk Through

          12:30 JV Girls
           1:05 JV Boys
           1:45- #7

WOW!  What a race this afternoon at Riverfront!!! Many runners set new PR's... even after running personal best times just last Saturday!  Results are posted, so check them out and give one another Huge High Fives!!!!  (the boys team scores are way off...we'll get them corrected tomorrow!)

One oversight for this weekend in Missoula... the JV races occur earlier in the morning... Lily will run at 9:30 and Todd will run at 10:15...

Sept. 27, 2012

Today we are at Riverfront for the JV Race...
     Girls run @ 4:00

Mountain West looks like it is a go!  The air quality is actually improving and at this point we are fully planning to travel AND race in Missoula!  Our bus leaves at 8:30 am and we will be staying at the Grant Creek Inn. Saturday's meet will be held at the University Golf Course and the schedule is as follows:
     Boys -- 11:00 am

Thanks to the Morledge-Hampton's for hosting last evening's team dinner!

Sept. 23, 2012

I have finally finished combing old records, meets results, etc., and I am even more impressed with our performances yesterday now that the numbers are all in!  There were 18 PR's yesterday on the gilrs team and 16 PR"s on the boy's side!!! That's about 70% of our team setting personal record times!
Photos are now up and if anyone else has photos you'd like to add to the Bronc XC picasa album just let me know and I'll send you the log-in info.
Practice tomorrow will start in Coach Lord's room.

Sept. 22, 2012

What a day!!!

We had absolutely phenomenal performances today at Riverfront... Way to go, Broncs!  We are so proud of each one of you!

What a fantastic showing at Gillette yesterday!  Almost every single vetran runner bettered their Gillette course times (improvements ranged from 11 s. -- 2.5 min.!!!) Our boys varsity team was 5th overall and our girls varsity team was 4th overall. We had three runners place in the top ten; Courtney(V), Brenna(V), and Calvin(JV) and we had several runners complete their very first cross country races ever!

Monday we'll meet in the park at 3:20 for practice. Tuesday will be a longer practice (at least until 5:30 or 6:00) as we'll go over our meet results and all of our business for the week at that practice...we'll gather in Coach Lord's room (#305) for that practice.

For Friday:

  • Also Pack: uniform, running shoes, spikes (if desired), watch, bronc apparel for warm-up, dry clothes for bus ride home, homework, reading material, etc. We will NOT be stopping to shower.

Thanks to Rob Johnson, we now have photos from the 2012 season! The photos link on the right is now active! Click there to see photos from this season. Also, continued thanks to Vince Long for helping keep this website functioning!!!

On Friday, Sept. 7th, we travel to Gillette, Wyoming, for the Wayne Chaney Cross Country Invitational.  Be in front of Senior High on Grand Avenue at 7:45.  Bus leaves at 8:00.  The races are at the Camplex Center on the east edge of town.  Our schedule for the day is as follows:

JV girls 3:00
JV boys 3:45
Varsity girls 4:15
Varsity boys 4:45.
Approximate return time to Senior High--10:00 pm.

The yellow slips are due to coaches at 3:30 on Wednesday and should be signed by teachers for periods 1-6.  Please make sure your bags are packed the night before!  Double check uniforms, spikes, shoes, etc. and pack a few healthy snacks and your new water bottle, too!

On bus trips, we encourage students to bring homework, reading books or other materials. They may bring iPods or DVD players but must use ear buds. If the bus has a DVD player, we may play movies on the way home but they must be PG-13 or less.  We expect all runners to remain in their seats, respect the bus driver and bus property, respect opponents and the host facility, and clean up the meet area and bus at the end of the competition. We expect to have fun on our trips, but at the same time, we want to compete well and conduct ourselves with pride.

Also... great performances by BSH runners at the Red Lodge Fun Run for Charities!!

March 7, 2012

If excitement could be conveyed in a typed message, this one would be BURSTING!  Kate McPherson and I are so excited to have the opportunity to coach the Senior High Cross Country team and to become part of a program with such an inspiring and successful legacy! With a lot of help and support from Coach Gardiner and Coach Long we have begun planning for the fall and are anticipating a wonderful 2012 season.

However, we are looking for volunteers to help us coordinate our summer training program. Kate is expecting a baby (her first!) at the end of May and my family and I have commitments that keep us in Washington during much of the summer. Soooo,  we are looking for volunteers who would be willing to sign-up to meet our runners (and run with them, if you'd like) for one or two weeks throughout the summer.

Workouts will be held at 6:00 am T/TH/F and at 6:00 pm M/W beginning July 2nd.

If you are willing to help out let me know and please pass this along to other BSHS XC parents and friends.

Thank you!
