If you are attempting this task for the first time, you may want to acquire a set of safety goggles. Improper handling of the telescoping tube could result in an eye injury.

Tools List

Item Description Note
screwdriver This tool is optional but may be required if you have short finger nails or a weak grip.
gloves These will be handy should you neglect Step 2 and a part becomes lost.

The Procedure

Step Photo Description
1 Identify that the roll of toilet paper requires replacement. Hopefully, this will occur before you actually need the product. Generally, the presence of the carboard core on the telescoping rod is a sign that the toilet paper roll requires replacing.
2 Lower the lid on the toilet.
3 Grasp the telescoping rod and slide it as far as it will got to the right.
4 Using your index fingertip and thumb, or a single fingernail, or optional screwdriver, move one end of the telescoping rod to the right. It will be necessary to move it far enough to the right to retract its end from the holding bracket. You should be able to see the end of the telescoping rod. The tube is made of two pieces and there is a spring between them. Releasing your grip on the tube could launch one half of the tube at a moderate velocity causing personal injury, damage to surrounding fixtures, or immersion of the the tube half in the toilet (this is where the gloves will come in handy and why reason is why Step 2 was included in these instructions).
5 Move the telescoping rod toward you and then to the left to disengage it from the right-side holding bracket
6 Slide the old roll off the telescoping rod and dispose of properly (not in the toilet). You should now be holding the empty telescoping rod
7 Pick up the new roll of toilet paper and rotate it until to find the end of the paper. It will likely be glued down.
8 Lift up the end of the paper to expose it as a flap. Orient the roll so the flap is as shown in the photograph to the left. Incorrect orietation is a taboo. In the Northern Hemisphere the paper must come off the roll on the side nearest the sitter. In the Southern Hemisphere it is acceptable for the flap to come off on the "back side."
9 Slide the telescoping rod into the center core of the toilet paper as shown.
10 As the end of the telescoping rod protrudes from the end of the roll of toilet paper, align the end of the rod with the opening in the holding bracket. Insert the end of the telescoping rod into the holding bracket.
11 Now, without allowing the end of the telescoping rod to leave the holding bracket, compress the spring in the rod by pushing the right end of the rod toward the left end of the rod. When it is compressed, move the right end of the telescoping rod into alignment with the right-side holding bracket. Insert the right end of the telescoping rod into the right-side holding bracket by releasing the compression you have on the spring.
12 The roll should stay suspended on the telescoping rod as shown.
13 Lift the paper flap off the roll, seperating it from the glue line.
14 Fold one-half of the flap in a 45-degree angle as shown.
15 Fold the other half of the flap in a 45-degree angle as shown.
16 The operation is now complete and should appear as shown.
