Change Box Title

When you are using a pinhole or other homemade camera, chance are that you will not be using roll film. There is a need to change the film or paper in your camera after each shot. One of the simplest ways is to use a changing bag or box.

The design inluded here is about as simple as it gets and uses readily available materials. Here's what you will need:

Materials
  • A cardboard box with a lid that slides on, such as the type that printing paper comes in
  • An old pair of cotton pants, black preferred
  • Duct tape
  • Black masking tape (or black construction paper and regular tape)

Procedure
  • Cut two 4" diameter holes in the box, one in a side and one in an end
  • Cut the pant legs away from the rest of the pants and put one end of the pant leg in one of the holes of the box
  • Tape the pant leg around the opening in the box as shown in the image below
  • Repeat for the other pant leg
  • Seal up any holes in the box with the black masking tape or construction paper

Usage

Put your camera and film in the changing box and put on the box lid. By reaching in through the pant legs you will be able to load your camera in a reasonable dark space. It is a good idea to test for light leaks, especially if you are using faster emulsions.
