Expansion Tank, 2022, graphite and pastel on paper, 15" x 22".

Expansion Tank provides another industrial subject full of geometric shapes. My reference was a photograph I took in 1980 in a heating plant at Camp Pendleton, CA. The windowed wall provided a light source that I elevated to a subject as much as the tank itself is. The tank sits on its support in the center of the composition, letting it dominate the scene, however, I drew it in monochrome to emphasize both structure and strength but also to let them stand as static compared to the light entering the room.
